Hand taps in a three-piece set with metric threads are tools used to create or improve internal threads (in holes). The set consists of three different taps, each with a specific purpose and cutting stage.
Composition of the Set:
First Tap (Taper Tap):
Also called the "initial cutting tap."
Features a pronounced taper on the first threads for easy thread starting.
Used for the initial pass, forming the base of the thread.
Second Tap (Intermediate or Plug Tap):
Used in the second cutting stage.
Deepens and extends the thread started by the first tap.
Has a less pronounced taper compared to the first.
Third Tap (Bottoming Tap):
Called the "finishing tap."
Extends the thread to the full depth of the hole and completes its geometry.
Almost fully threaded, making it suitable for blind holes (holes without an exit).
